Badge description

The mediator has proved to be skilled at the standard level of mediators in Europe and the United States. In most countries this will make it possible to enter the local register and work for the courts. To obtain this qualification the mediator passed the assessment at the highest level.

Program content

The mediator followed the basic course on mediation and passed the exams (including the assessment). The basic course (minimum 20 blocks of three hours) has the following content:

  1. Basics on ADR and specifically mediation
  2. Rules and regulations (including basic legal aspects)
  3. Basic procedures
  4. Ethical codes
  5. Basic theory on the essence of conflicts
  6. Balancing power
  7. Structuring of the process of mediation
  8. Skills and competences

Assessment

The mediator passed successfully the international accepted assessment, recognized by IRM. The competences on which the mediator has proven his or her ability are:

  • Working relationship
    • Generates trust
    • Professional ethics
    • Applied impartiality and neutrality
  • Motivate for mediation
    • Focus on joint effort
    • Self determination
  • Mutual communication
    • Promote understanding
    • Handling conflict and emotions
  • Agenda and procedures
  • Negotiate/deals with conflict issues
    • Identify and clarify conflict issues
    • Inventory of underlying interests
